Michael L. Ulica is executive vice president and chief operating and financial officer at the National Geographic Society. He is responsible for the nonprofit’s operational, administrative, and financial functions, including serving as the Society’s treasurer. From March to September 2018, Michael also served as interim president and chief executive officer while the organization searched for a permanent leader, leading the development of the Society’s new strategic plan, advancing its campus-wide renovation project, and fostering large-scale partnerships with like-minded brands. Michael joined National Geographic in 2006 and became the Society’s chief financial officer in 2014. He previously worked at Discovery Communications in a range of financial roles and before that at Time Life, where he held management positions in finance and operations. Michael serves on the boards of Ocean Exploration Trust and Columbia University School of Professional Studies.
